I like pictures of crystals, these are P3121, and diffract to 2.6 A at a nice hot beam (like CHESS).
These are some crazy tadpole crystals obtained of a shorter version of the protein.
Density maps are nice too, at left is the experimental map as calculated from the SeMet phases, the right shows the refined map, the final model is superimposed on either map.
Want to make a pretty picture ? Try exporting your images from pymol to pov-ray. Pov-ray is the rendering package of choice for professionals, and its free!! Here TraI36 is in the center and the two other HUH proteins whose structures have been solved are to the left and right, the relative permutation on the main beta sheet is shown at the back. Click on the picture for a full size PNG.
Nice surface representation of the protein, colored by electrostatic potential. Note that the only potential is located in the DNA binding cleft, red is negative and blue is positive potential. Figure generated using SPOCK and Raster 3d.

Here's one of the potential DNA binding 'pockets' the image shows a guanine modelled into the surface of the protein nestled into a pocket formed by R201 and E193. These residues have been shown to be important for the DNA specificity of the protein.

See this paper for more details.

Like apple ? We like dem apples. In fact we're trying to use the new OS x machines for all of our crystallography and day to day needs like word processing. This site has been invaluable in helping set us up,below is a screenshot of O running native on OSx.

This is a page of pictrures of the structure of TraI36.

Questions ? E-mail me, or see the paper.
